Take These 10 Steps to Achieve Your Dreams

When you think of achieving your dreams, what comes to mind? Most people have something in life that they’re striving for. Whether it’s finding a way to help others, finding a job you love, or reaching a financial goal, achieving your dreams will ultimately provide you with happiness and success. However, you may find yourself in the dilemma of just not knowing how to get started. Follow these 10 steps to achieve your dreams starting today.

1. Be Patient

The first step, as in most situations in life, is to be patient. Achieving your dreams is not going to happen overnight! Time, hard work, and dedication are just a few of the things that you’re going to have to uphold to make your dreams a reality.  

2. Take the Plunge

If something is standing in the way of you achieving your dreams, it’s time to take the plunge into turning thoughts into action. Whatever is holding you back, whether it’s a job, a person, a fear, or a situation, it’s time to let go and let live. However, this step shouldn’t be done without having a plan in place!

3. Make A Plan & Set Goals

No one achieves their dreams by saying they want something and snapping their fingers (wouldn’t that be nice?). A VERY important step in achieving your dreams is to create a plan and set goals, and the more specific, the better! 

Write down your questions, include detailed steps you need to take, put everything into an organized timeline, and include some motivational quotes or side notes to help yourself push through even on the hard days. It’s important you stay motivated and on track!

4. Surround Yourself With Positivity

This step may sound a bit cliche, but it’s important to surround yourself with people who support you and are willing to morally, emotionally, or physically help with your endeavors. Surrounding yourself with positive people will only make achieving your dreams that much more simple and fulfilling. 

5. Believe In & Take Care of Yourself

Possibly the most important tool you need to achieve your dreams is self-confidence in your ability to succeed. Self-doubt will only create mental road-blocks to stop you from moving forward. When you believe in yourself, you can really accomplish anything. 

Coinciding with believing in yourself, is taking care of yourself. Without proper mental and physical health, you’re going to have a hard time achieving anything! Ensure you get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy diet, take breaks from your work/tasks, and exercise to uphold a healthy lifestyle inside and out.

6. Reward Yourself

Think achieving a goal on your game plan is enough reward in itself? Think again! While yes, it’s rewarding to accomplish those stepping stones on a long journey, it’s important to provide yourself with a meaningful reward. Maybe your favorite thing in the world is chocolate; reward yourself with a piece at the end of a strenuous task. Maybe you love a walk in the park or spending some time with a good book; reward yourself with these things! 

It’s important you don’t deprive yourself of satisfaction, but creating rewarding opportunities separate from your norm is a great way to keep moving forward.

7. Stay Organized

Throughout the process of achieving one goal to the next, things can start to get messy. It’s important to mentally and physically stay organized. Use a planner to write down your tasks, or create a mind-map outline on paper. Get a physical calendar to keep on your fridge and cross off days/tasks as you do them. Staying organized will help keep stress levels down in your day-to-day life. 

8. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

In any part of the process of achieving your goals, it’s SO important you don’t compare yourself to others. Looking to others for inspiration is different, but everyone has a different path to success. It’s also important to remember, especially through a screen, you really don’t know how successful someone is. The most important thing is to remember you’re making progress.

9. Don’t Let Fear Hold You Back

Any time changes occur, you’re likely to have some fears or reservations. It’s okay to take these things into account, but don’t let your fears hold you back. Fear is the biggest obstacle that holds people back from achieving their dreams; but with a plan in place and a support system surrounding you, it’s time to let those fears go!

10. Be Persistent & Don’t Give Up

Everyone stumbles, makes mistakes, and just has bad days. However, persistence is key if you’re going to achieve your dreams. Did you know most businesses fail within the first five years of opening their doors? The same general rule goes for achieving ANY goal: it’s going to be hard, stressful, and may even seem impossible at times, but as long as you don’t give up, it’s going to be worth it!
